My first floor studio is in a converted Victorian warehouse in the exciting seaside city of Brighton, in the U.K. I love working here and its a brilliant environment, friendly and creative. There are several studios in the building, I am on the first floor up steep and well worn wooden stairs, colloquially known as 'The Studio Upstairs'.
I graduated from the Royal College of Art in London with an MA in textiles where I specialized in weave and knit. My background in textile design and particularly weaving is strikingly evident in my complex 3D structures called 'Paperscapes'.
My work is diverse, abstract, process based, often experimental, and mostly made of paper, and It usually involves cutting things up with a very sharp scalpel blade.
l enjoy exploring different materials and techniques and developing new skills. I draw in ink with dip pens, relief print using my re-purposed die cutting machine, paint in acrylics, create collage, wearable art, 3D 'Paperscapes', low relief structures and more!
I am drawn to themes of repetition, sequence, systems and grids, and am currently interested in industrial landscapes, redundant buildings, derelict objects and other discarded things.
I am acutely aware of over consumption and am now incorporating single use waste materials like Rooibos earl grey tea bag boxes (my favourite) and old useless paper and card bits and bobs from incomplete games into my work. (See my 'Dark Satanic Mills' series of collages.)
I am currently upgrading this site and all of my pieces shown here (except Archive) are for sale.
If you would like to visit my studio please mail me with your interests. You are always welcome in my relaxed but stimulating environment....look forward to seeing you!
